Description

Hoblets is a house dating to the late 16th century, with extensions added in the early 17th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. The main block comprises four bays facing southeast, featuring an internal chimney stack situated one bay from the left end. An early 17th-century one-bay extension exists to the right, complete with an external chimney stack at its end. A small, single-storey extension to the rear is roofed with corrugated asbestos. The house is one storey in height with attics. Windows include one 19th-century casement, one 19th-century horizontally sliding sash window of 12 lights, and one 20th-century casement. A 19th-century boarded door has a light inserted into it. The roof is half-hipped at the left end. The front elevation displays early plasterwork incorporating a zigzag pattern and sawtooth indentations within the panels. The interior features axial beams, which are chamfered with lamb’s tongue stops, alongside plain, horizontally sectioned joists. Further interior elements include jowled posts and a roof constructed with clasped purlins.
