Description

This barn, located 40 metres southwest of Smeetham Hall, dates from the mid-16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, resting on a partly original red brick plinth, with some sections weatherboarded in black on the gable ends. The roof is gabled and covered with corrugated asbestos, featuring a central lean-to roof above the large door on the south side. The barn is aisled on both sides and consists of five bays. The roof structure includes crown posts, flat profile longitudinal braces, and single alternate sided down bracing. It has jowled posts, curving aisle passing-braces, and some wall bracing. The barn is situated on a moated site.
