Description

Dower House is an early 19th-century house located on Bulmer Street. It is constructed of red brick and features hipped roofs covered with peg tiles. The building is two storeys high and has an 'L' plan form, with three large rectangular brick chimney stacks, two of which are symmetrically placed at the front corners of the roof hips.

The front elevation has a slightly projecting central section with double-hung sash windows that do not have glazing bars, set under segmental brick heads. Each of the three bays has external shutters. The outer bays on the ground floor feature semi-circular headed windows within recessed semi-circular headed openings, with louvre shutters above the window heads. A mid-19th-century porch projects from the center, supported by brick pilasters and topped with an elaborately moulded brick cornice.

The long west elevation includes similar double-hung sash windows and features a central mid-19th-century canted two-storey bay window with double-hung sash windows set in brickwork. There is also a single-storey bay window towards the southern end. The house appears to be a simple rectangular block with later extensions at the rear. Inside, it has typical plaster cornices and fire surrounds, as well as complete internal window shutters, including vertical roller shutters in the bay window.
