Description
The War Memorial, built in the 1920s, is made of Portland stone. It features a shaped plinth above two rectangular steps, topped with a plain Latin Cross. The west side has a central panel that projects and bears the inscription: "THIS CROSS/IS ERECTED/IN MEMORY OF/THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN/THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919". Below this inscription, the names of those who died in the 1939-45 war are listed, while the recessed panels on either side display the names of those who perished in the First World War. The memorial has simple moulding at both the bottom and top, with flat sides and reverse. The cross is set on a flared socle. It is located in the churchyard to the west of the Church of St Andrew, with which it shares group value.
