Description

TL 74 SW ASHEN DOCTOR'S LANE, East Side 1/2 Ashen House 7.8.1952 II House, C16 or earlier, restyled in C18 with C19 additions. Timber framed and roughcast, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. L-plan, consisting of 3-bay main range, aspect SE, with internal chimney stack at SW end, and NE crosswing extending to rear with external stack on NE side. 2 storeys and attics. Half- glazed door in eared doorcase with moulded hood on brackets, C18, and 2 C20 bay windows. First floor, 4 double-hung sash windows of 12 lights, late C18. Hipped roof on crosswing, with dentilled eaves to SE and NE only. The interior has early C18 pine panelling and some late C16 oak panelling. The frame is almost entirely concealed by plaster and panelling, but one jowled post with chamfered arch-brace is visible. Butt-purlin roof with some re-used smoke- blackened timber. Moated site.
