Description
Southlands Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations and additions made in the 18th century and later. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, topped with a red plain tiled roof. The house features red brick chimney stacks on the left exterior and right rear. It has two storeys and a three-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes with moulded surrounds. The central entrance has a 20th-century panelled door with a flat canopy supported by brackets. At the rear, there is a right wing. Inside, notable features include stop-chamfered bridging joists, jowled storey posts, and some exposed halved bracing on the walls. The interior also boasts an inglenook fireplace with chamfered stone lower jambs and a mantel beam above, as well as an original bedroom fireplace with chamfered jambs and a Tudor arch.
