Description
The Lodge is a house built around 1830. It features a grey brick front wall with side and rear walls made of more randomly colored brick. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate, and it has boarded wood eaves cornice. The house has a double pile plan and is two storeys high. The symmetrical three-bay facade includes recessed hung sashes with margin lights. A Doric portico made of brick and plaster, with a flat roof and leaded design, leads to the central doorway, which has a round-headed arch, panelled double doors, and a fanlight. Inside, there is an open string staircase with stick balusters and a mahogany rail, a marble fireplace, and moulded cornices. The house features elliptical and round-headed arches connecting the front and rear parts on both the ground and first floors. In 1842, John Hitch owned and occupied the house.
