Description

Number 66 is a mid-19th century house located on Melbourn High Street. It features a brick front wall that has been painted, with flint end walls. The low-pitched roof is now covered with asbestos tiles, and there are grey gault brick stacks, including a side stack with a saw tooth projecting cornice. The house is L-shaped and has two storeys. On the first floor, there are three recessed hung sash windows, each with twelve panes. The two similar windows on either side of the doorway have cambered arches above them. The entrance features a panelled door and an elliptical arch leading to a carriageway entry, which has boarded wooden doors.

At the rear of the house, there is a range of outbuildings, including a two-storey 19th-century glass workshop. This workshop is framed, part weatherboarded, and plastered, with a pantiled roof. It has two fixed light mullion windows in the loft with original glazing, and pointed arches above the leaded light windows on the ground floor. There is a reset door with the date 1682 on its frame. Additionally, two window panes are inscribed with 'Tom King married - day of 1848' and 'King and Howard began work in the year 1839'. In 1842, the house was owned by George Ward, who was listed in Kelly's Directory as a glazier and plumber.
