Description
The Court is a house located on Meldreth High Street, dating from the 17th century, with an extension added to the north around 1790. The walls of the original 17th-century house were repaired in 1891 and 1892, as indicated by dated bricks. The structure is built of red brick and features late 19th-century shaped hung tiles and some terracotta decorative work from the same period. The original part has a tiled roof, while the later extension has a low-pitched slate roof. The end and internal stacks have been rebuilt, with one stack on the west gable end dated 1773. The building is two storeys high with an attic, and all windows and openings are from the late 19th century. The north range, which is parallel and attached to the 17th-century section, has a symmetrical facade with five window bays, including a recessed central bay featuring twelve-pane hung sashes. The central doorway is set in an elliptical arch and has a panelled door with margin lights. The gable end facing the road is pedimented and includes a similar hung sash at the first floor in a shallow recess with a segmental arch. Inside, one room in the 17th-century part is reported to retain original panelling, along with a staircase from the same period.
