Description

Walnut Tree Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage located on the west side of High Street, Knapwell. Originally timber-framed, the walls are now plastered with painted brick replacements. The roof is thatched, with a ridge stack. The cottage is a single storey and attic, with gable end leantos. A 20th-century door is located on the left-hand side; the original lobby entrance has been replaced with a window. There are four horizontal sliding sash windows. The interior features a large inglenook hearth with a sealed baking oven, stop-chamfered ceiling beams and floor joists, some of which have been replaced. The cottage was divided into two dwellings in the 19th century.
