Description
No. 6A and No. 8 on Brook Street is a cottage that dates back to the 17th century, with a late 19th-century addition. The original structure is timber framed and has been plastered, while the later addition features 19th-century gault brick. The cottage has a thatched roof that is half hipped to the north, along with a slate roof. The original part of the cottage is one storey with an attic and has a plastered brick ridge stack. The later addition to the south is two storeys tall and features two symmetrical bays with end stacks that replace the parlour end of the original 17th-century building.
The cottage has two first-floor hung sash windows with margin glazing bars and two similar ground-floor windows that flank a four-panelled door topped with a rectangular fanlight set in a segmental brick arch. There is also one horizontal sliding sash dormer window and two ground-floor horizontal sliding sash windows. The entrance includes a C18 six-panelled door approached by steps, and the building has a tarred brick plinth.
