Description

No. 17 Brook Street is a cottage dating from the 17th century with early 19th-century alterations. It is timber framed, with plastered brick and painted render, and has a thatched roof that is half-hipped to the west. The cottage features two lateral gault brick stacks. It is one storey high with an attic. There is a deep brick plinth and a canted bay window facing the street. The north-facing front has a panelled door at the main entrance, and a further door to the left. It contains one casement window and one fixed-light window. Three dormer windows are present, two with casements and one with horizontal sliding sashes. A brick plinth is visible. The building was formerly The Plough Inn, as noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (West Cambs Notes) in 1961.
