Description

Bulbeck Mill House is a mill house that features a 17th-century rear range and a main range dating from around 1740. The rear range is timber framed and rendered, with the rear wall having been removed and rebuilt. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof. The principal range, built around 1740, is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a tiled roof and tumbled gable end parapets supported by kneelers. The building has flush end stacks and is two storeys high with attics. It features two original hipped dormers and a symmetrical facade with five eighteen-pane hung sash windows set in opening boxing, complete with ovolo moulded glazing bars and cambered arches. The central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and a round-headed arch, featuring a raised and fielded panelled door with radial glazing bars in the fanlight above, and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets.

Inside, there is an original closed-string staircase with column-on-vase balusters and a moulded rail. One ground floor room retains original raised and fielded panelling in two heights, adorned with a dentil cornice and a moulded dado. The fireplace in this room has been replaced but is flanked by original niches in half-round arches, which have raised key blocks and panelled pilasters. The windows still have their original shutters.
