Description

Saxon Lodge is a house that dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with alterations and additions from the 17th century. It underwent a conversion into two dwellings in the 19th century and was renovated in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a plastered plinth and plain tiled roofs. It has a large ridge stack with a rebuilt grouped shaft and an end stack to the right, also with a grouped shaft. The house is two storeys tall and includes a cellar. The original hall has an axial two-storey range, an inserted 17th-century stack, and a floor to the hall. A 20th-century door is located in the lobby entry position, with brick steps leading up to it. A small 20th-century oriel window blocks a 19th-century doorway, while two casement windows are situated to the right, along with six casement windows on the first floor. Inside, the building features exposed timber framing that includes reused medieval timber from the 17th-century reconstruction and extension, as well as 17th-century panelling. There are traces of Vennillion red paint in the first-floor room.
