Description
Numbers 21 and 23, known as The Old Bakehouse, are two houses that were formerly a house, shop, and bakehouse, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings and feature roofs made of Collyweston stone slates, along with some 20th-century imitation stone slates.
The south elevation shows that No. 21 has four ground floor and five first floor twenty-paned hung sash windows, along with a central six-raised and fielded panelled door topped by a rectangular fanlight. Freestone quoins suggest that there is an extension of two bays to the west. No. 23 has a boarded door and a large twenty-paned hung sash window to the right, as well as two twenty-four paned hung sash windows on the first floor. All openings are topped with stone lintels. The buildings have two brick gable end stacks and one ridge stack.
Inside, there are panelled doors and a large baking oven that remains intact, complete with a cast iron door.
