Description
House, possibly dating from the 17th century and incorporating some medieval materials, with significant rebuilding and a new facade in the mid to late 19th century. The construction uses coursed limestone rubble and ashlar limestone, with decorative moulded Ketton stone details. The roof is covered in Collyweston stone slates. The house is two storeys high with attics, and consists of a main east-west range with a projecting wing to the right. Parapet gables are present, with end stacks and a ridge stack to the right of the centre. The left-hand stack features paired ashlar shafts and a cornice, while the right-hand stacks have paired octagonal ashlar shafts. An entrance porch is located to the left of the centre, featuring a parapet gable, a finial, and a panelled door shaped to a four-centred chamfered arch. A two-storey bay window is on the left-hand side, with a parapet facade gable behind, and sash windows with four-centred heads and spandrels. A square bay window is positioned on the right-hand side, with sash windows between ovolo mullions. The cross wing has two first-floor casement windows with two lights, and a three-light casement window at each floor. There are also two gabled dormer windows. The house was altered around 1860 by John Lawrence, the estate agent for Elton Hall. The wing to the right originally extended to the road.
