Description
The Methodist Church, built in 1864 and originally a Wesleyan chapel, is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and ashlar. It has one galleried storey and features a gable facing the street, with rusticated quoins, a moulded cornice that includes dentil enrichment, and a stepped pediment topped with a shaped finial and side ball finials. There is an ashlar band between the floors, a round-headed stone-arched entrance with a rising keystone, moulded jambs, a plain tympanum, and double panelled doors. The ground floor has flanking windows with wooden Y-tracery and original leaded lights, while the first floor has three larger windows. Inside, the fittings are complete, including a gallery at the north end accessed by a staircase. The property also features cast iron railings and gate piers with double gates and pierced lower panels, which may have been made at the Hayes iron foundry in Elton.
