ELTON STOCKS GREEN TL 0893 (North Side) 15/89 No. 2 (Chestnut Farmhouse) and former shop GV II Farmhouse, and shop to east. Dated '1740 RJM' on oval plaque below eaves; c.1880 butcher's shop replacing service range with original shop. Coursed limestone rubble with freestone and ashlar dressings, C19 rock faced limestone with Collyweston stone slated roofs and C19 red pantiled roof. Two storeys and attic, symmetrical facade of three 'bays'. Parapet gables with chamfered copings and ashlar end stacks. Wooden, moulded eaves cornice. Four-panelled door with rectangular fanlight; two ground floor casement windows with wooden lintels and three similar first floor windows. Fire insurance plaque above. first floor window. Quoin stone inscribed 'John Read 1771'. Single storey shop to east with two paired two-light windows and two paired sixteen-paned hung sash windows with gabled roof above and mock timber-frame and tracery. Shop entrance and two windows forming three equal bays in wide two-centred east gable archway, both windows with drop shutters. Interior of farmhouse; boxed ceiling beams, sealed hearths, C18 cornice to western room, C18 panelling to central stairs and two-panelled doors.
