Description

Rectory Farmhouse, located on Elton Middle Street, is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, with a garden wall to the west. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring some large possibly reused dressed limestone blocks and freestone quoins, along with 19th-century brick. The roof is tiled and dates from the 20th century.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic, and the main east-west range may have been rebuilt in the 19th century, complemented by a cross wing to the west. The street-facing elevation includes a wide four-panelled door with a flat canopy to the left, flanked by two three-light and one four-light casement windows, all with wooden lintels. On the first floor, there is one three-light and two two-light casement windows. The cross wing features parapet gables with moulded stone copings, an altered three-light casement window with a wooden lintel, and a first-floor three-light ovolo-mullioned casement window with a moulded cornice, along with two similar two-light windows on the east elevation.

Inside, the cross wing showcases stop-chamfered ceiling beams with circular patterns on the soffit, open hearths with chamfered mantel beams, and stone pavings in the hall.
