Description

This is a late 17th-century house, later altered and now divided into two dwellings. It is located on Market Street in Whittlesey. The house is constructed of brick and features a late 17th-century square ridge stack with narrow recessed panels, and a large original side stack to the rear wall. The design is of a three-bay, lobby-entry plan, and the building is three storeys high, including an attic storey likely added in the 19th century. A band runs along the original eaves height. There are four 18th-century window openings on each storey, some with replaced surrounds but retaining original brick arches. The original doorway opening leads to the lobby entry.

Inside, a narrow stairbay is located at the lower end of the central room, with two flights of the original staircase remaining, though the flight to the attic may be re-set. The staircase features symmetrical turned balusters, a closed string, and square newels with recessed panels. The main beams in each of the three bays have stop-chamfered edges with run-out stops. In the right-hand bay are around 1730 mouldings and keyblocks to round-headed doorway arches, which are now blocked.
