18/79 The Manor

GV II

House. Late C17 origin, but much rebuilding and remodelling in late C18. Local red and gault brickwork with steeply pitched plain tiled roof. Ridge stack of two building periods and upper courses rebuilt. End stack to south-east gable. Single range and three bay plan. Within the bay at the north-west end are the remains of the C17 house. The rest is late C18. Two storeys and attic. Late C18 facade of four first floor recessed hung sashes with gauged red brick surrounds and stone sills. Similar windows in segmental arches at ground floor. Doorway has pilaster doorcase with flat hood, panelled reveals and door. Round arched head to stairlight window in rear wall. Interior: One flight remaining of late C17 closed string staircase in bay at north end. Splat balusters, moulded rail and square newel. Chamfered main beam in same room is contemporary. Late C18 corner cupboard having dentil cornice, raised and fielded panelling and shaped shelving. Another room with similar panelling below the moulded dado.
