TL 2379 ABBOTS RIPTON WENNINGTON (North East side) 15/24 Keepers Cottage Crosses Cottage

GV II

Two adjoining cottages. Originally one, extended to north east end. Late C17 and C18. Timber framed, plaster rendered and thatched roof of long straw and two ridge and eaves levels. North east end half hipped. Shared C17 red brick ridge stack and C19 end stack to north east end. Single range with end to road. Keepers cottage of one storey and attic. On the north west side two boxed dormers and four casements. At the rear C19 boarded door and two windows, also C19, with small panes. Crosses Cottage also of one storey and attic. Three dormers on north west side. Interior: Originally a three bay cottage possibly of lobby entry plan, subdivided and extended in C18. Back to back inglenook hearths. Two bays to Keepers Cottage. Parlour to end to road. Crosses Cottage has two bays with intermediate bays, without tie beams, between chamfer stopped main beams. RCHM: Hunts mon (27)
