Description

Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with minor alterations from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is timber framed and roughcast rendered on a plinth, topped with plain tiled roofs. The main range consists of six bays, with a two-bay kitchen wing at the rear of the southwest end. The principal range is two storeys high and features four first-floor flush frame hung sashes with margin lights, which have stucco surrounds with raised keyblocks from the early 19th century. There are three similar ground floor flush frame hung sashes with margin lights. The doorway is located in the centre bay. The kitchen wing, dating from the 18th century, is also timber framed, rendered, and has a plain tiled roof. It is one storey and has an attic.

Inside the main range, there are six bays, including intermediate bays without tie beams. The principal posts have jowled heads, while the tie beams are unbraced. The roof is constructed with clasped side purlins. The ground floor features a ceiling frame with broad stop chamfers and ogee stops with nicks. The northeast end room contains an 18th-century corner cupboard with raised and fielded panels and shaped shelves. There are back-to-back hearths, which now have modern fireplaces and an inglenook. The rear range has ceiling joists set on edge.
