TL 2379 ABBOTS RIPTON WENNINGTON (South East side) 15/20 Hill Farmhouse

GV II

House. Mid-late C17. Minor late C18 or early C19 alterations. Timber framed, roughcast rendered on a plinth. Plain tiled roofs. Plan of six bay main range with two bay kitchen wing at the rear of the south west end. Two storey principal range. Four first floor flush frame hung sashes with margin lights. Stucco surrounds with raised keyblocks, early C19, to three similar mid C2O ground floor flush frame hung sashes with margin lights. Doorway to centre bay. Kitchen wing. C18. Timber framed, rendered and plain tiled. One storey and attic. Interior: Main range of six bays including intermediate bays without tie beams. Principal posts have jowled heads but the tie beams are unbraced. The roof is of clasped side purlin construction. The ground floor has a ceiling frame of broad stop chamfers. Ogee stops with nicks. North east end room has C18 corner cupboard with raised and fielded panels and shaped shelves. Back-to-back hearths, now with modern fireplaces and an inglenook.
