Description

Nobold Grange is a house dating from the 17th century, with further development in the 18th century and alterations in the early 19th. It is built with a timber frame and red brick, with some areas rendered and colourwashed, and has a plain tile roof with end stacks. The house follows a lobby entry plan, which has been much extended. The main two-storey range has four windows, mostly with 8/8 sashes. 20th-century casements and bull's-eye windows are located on the ground floor. A six-panel door and overlight are set within a 20th-century gabled porch. To the right is a lower timber-framed range, which is partially used as outbuildings, and has various doors and windows and two dormers. A series of ventilation loops are visible on the right-hand coped gabled end. The square timber framing is visible on the front of the lower range, and mainly to the rear. The timber is substantial, set on a stone plinth. The rear of the main range mainly has 8/8 sashes.

Inside the lower range, there are chamfered spine beams and a roof structure with queen post and queen strut trusses. A small, late 17th-century winder staircase is located to the right of the lobby entry. This lower range appears to have been the original farmhouse, with the room now incorporated into the main range originally being part of it. This room retains spine beams and an open fireplace behind the entry. The fireplace behind it was altered in the 19th century, but the original hood remains. The rest of the main range dates from the 18th century and was extended in the early 19th. It features spine beams to part of the interior, an altered early 19th-century staircase, and two- and six-panel doors.
