Description
The Royal Oak is a cottage that was formerly a public house, dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed, with roughcast rendering and a long straw thatch half-hipped roof. The building has one storey and an attic, featuring a small 19th-century gable dormer. On the ground floor, there is one horizontal sliding sash window and a 19th-century boarded door with bead and quirk moulding. The southeast end has a modern casement window and a doorway. Inside, one room has a ceiling made of substantial joists laid flat, suggesting an early 17th-century date, which may also apply to the adjoining cottage to the northwest.
