Description
3 and 5 The Cross are two cottages that were originally one house, dating from the 17th century. They have a painted render finish over rubblestone or cob and a slate roof that continues with No.1. The building features brick stacks on the left party wall and at the rear wing. It has a three-unit convex-curved plan with a rear extension and stands two storeys high with a three-window range.
On the first floor, the windows are positioned at eaves level and have painted ovolo mullions with four-light leaded casements. No.3, on the left, has a similar window on the ground floor to the left, which was formerly the lower end of the house. To the right, there is an oak planked-and-studded door with strap hinges, framed by a Tudor-arched architrave with stopped chamfers.
No.5 features a similar 19th-century architrave next to the right, with a 19th-century planked door. To its right, there is a tall 19th-century four-light casement window, along with a smaller two-light window at the far right. The interiors have not been inspected.
