Description

This is a late 17th-century house, now a National Westminster Bank. It was altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick in English bond, with dressings and detailing in dressed limestone, likely Ketton stone. It has a plinth with a splayed upper edge and a rendered upper portion. The roof is now covered with asbestos slates and is hipped where two ranges meet. It features a wooden modillion eaves cornice and original parapetted gable ends. There are ridge and end stacks of dressed stone, the ridge stack having an entablature. The building is in an ā€œLā€ shape. It has two storeys and an attic, with one gable dormer. Each elevation is framed by rusticated stone quoins and divided by a moulded stone band. The Market Street elevation has original raised stone surrounds to a five-window range of 19th-20th century hung sash windows. Four similar windows are at ground floor, with one blocked. A doorway with a mid-20th century stone doorcase is also present. The Queen Street elevation mirrors the Market Street elevation, also with five bays and five similar surrounds to 19th-20th century windows on both the ground and first floors.
