Description
St John's College Master's Lodge was built in 1863 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. It is constructed of red brick featuring diagonal lines in blue brick, with stone dressings. The building showcases Gothic windows with trefoil heads and cusping, along with embattlements and gables. The windows consist of two and three lights, with a four-light window positioned above the entrance door. It has grouped Tudor chimneys and incorporates an oriel window from the old lodge. Inside, the entrance hall features early 16th century moulded ceiling beams, linen-fold panelling, and a large Elizabethan fireplace, likely from Audley End. The staircase has five moulded and slightly decorated ceiling beams, while the first-floor study contains linen-fold panelling dating from 1567 and earlier moulded ceiling beams. The old fittings are fully described by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments.
