Description
The K6 telephone kiosk, located in the Quayside pedestrian area of Cambridge, is a standard design created by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. It is made of cast iron and is painted red overall, featuring long horizontal glazing on its sides.
The exterior has horizontal and vertical glazing bars that divide each side into eight panes, with narrow margin lights on either side. The roof is domed and inspired by Sir John Soane, complementing the arched heads of each side. Above the glazed panels, there is a crown in relief, and the word 'TELEPHONE' is inscribed.
Inside, the modern telecommunications equipment is noted as not being of special architectural or historic interest, as per section 1 (5A) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
