Description

The railings, gates, and gas lamp bordering the churchyard of St Mary the Less on the north and west sides were constructed in the 19th century and are made of wrought and cast iron. The railings feature standards with ornamental scrolls and uprights topped with spike finials. The gates are similar in design. Positioned halfway along the railings, within the churchyard, is a functioning gas lamp mounted on a cast-iron column. The gas lamp has decorative corners at the top and an elaborate cover over the apex vent. These railings and the complete gas lamp are part of a significant group of historic buildings located in Little St Mary’s Lane and Trumpington Street.
