Description
1 and 3 Ship Cottages is a house dating from the 15th century or earlier, now divided into a group of cottages. It features a timber-framed structure with plaster and a red plain tile gambrel roof. The building has a rectangular plan, originally consisting of four bays, which were extended by one bay at each end in the 18th century. It is one storey high with attics and has five modern casement windows. There are four gabled dormers and rendered chimney stacks, along with modern extensions at the rear. A first floor was inserted in the central bays during the 16th century, and the roof was raised and rebuilt in the 18th century. The central chimney dates back to the 16th century, and one of the floor joists has a carved date of "1564".
