Description

Simpsons Farm is a cottage dating back to the 15th century or earlier, originally a hall house, with subsequent alterations and additions. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with a red plain tiled roof featuring a hip and gablet to the right, and a weatherboarded left gable. It has two storeys and a two-window front with vari-light casements, some incorporating centre glazing bars. A red brick chimney with three attached diagonal shafts is located to the right.

Inside, original mullion windows remain, along with jowled storey posts on both the ground and first floors. Brick floors are also present. Original features include a fireplace, stop-chamfered beams, a chamfered arched doorway, and remnants of the original roof structure, including a partially surviving crown post. Other original details include a halved and bridled scarf to the top plate and some jowled posts. The site is a moated one. The building was undergoing restoration at the time of resurvey.
