Description

Nelson House is a mid-19th century building located at 34 Cowgate in Peterborough. It stands three storeys tall and is constructed of painted brick with a slate roof. At the eaves, two brick piers support ball finials. The cornice features lion mask consoles. On the second floor, there are two windows with flat arches, double hung sashes, and glazing bars, which flank a segmental-headed niche supported by two consoles. This niche contains a bust of Admiral Nelson, with a keystone above it that has 'Nelson House' carved into it. A plain heavy cornice above the first floor, supported by four carved consoles, holds an iron guard. The first floor has three windows, while the ground floor features a modern shop front. The building has curiosity value.
