Description
Number 45 on Priestgate is a building with origins in the 18th century that was refronted in the mid-19th century. It stands two storeys high with attics and is constructed in ashlar stone. The facade features three flat-topped dormers and has a modern tile roof. Notable architectural details include a heavy dentil cornice and a balustraded parapet. The front has five windows with moulded shouldered architraves and slightly segmental arches that include keystones, with a band that continues around the building. There is a plinth at the base, and the doorway is flanked by modified Corinthian pilasters, leading to a four-panel fielded door beneath a rectangular fanlight. Inset foot scrapers are present, and there are three modern steps leading up to the entrance. At the rear, there is an 18th-century wing that is two storeys tall, featuring five windows with flush frames and double-hung sashes that have glazing bars, along with two hipped dormers. This building has undergone significant alterations. Numbers 43, 45, 49, 51, and 55 form a group.
