Description
Nos. 34, 36 (Parkside) and 38 (Little Pencarne) are a row of cottages that were originally five separate properties. Nos. 36 and 38 date from the 18th century, with their front elevation raised by one storey in the early 19th century. No. 34, which was originally a pair of cottages, is from the early 19th century. The 18th-century sections are built of mottled red brick, while the 19th-century sections feature red and yellow chequerwork brick. The cottages have slate roofs and were originally single-storeyed, but the entire row is now two-storeyed.
The windows are arranged irregularly, with the ground floor featuring three canted bay windows and two 2-light casements, all under slightly cambered heads in the earlier part. The first floor has eight 2-light casements, all with glazing bars and under slightly cambered heads. There are five identical doorcases, each with reeded architraves, paterae at the corners, and simply moulded cornice hoods, all containing 6-panel doors, two of which have glazed top panels. The row also includes a variety of brick ridge and gable end stacks. This building is included for its group value.
