Description

Granville House is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the early 19th century and may have been modified from an earlier structure, with later 19th-century additions to the rear. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring a chequerwork pattern in flared headers on the main elevation, while the rear is made of yellow brick. It has hipped slate roofs.

The principal block is three storeys high and one room deep, with rear blocks that are two storeys high and include attics. On the east elevation, there are two sets of sash windows, one set of windows, and two more sash windows per floor, although the spacing is slightly uneven. All windows have stucco surrounds with moulded keyboards, and the first and second-floor windows still have their glazing bars. The first floor features a central French window with marginal lights that opens onto a balcony with cast iron railings, which is formed by the top of the porch.

The porch has square piers with bands of diamond rustication that support a moulded cornice. The doorway, accessed by a flight of steps, has a bracketed open pediment and contains a French window along with a semi-circular fanlight that has ornamental glazing bars. There are stucco bands at the first and second-floor levels and a moulded eaves cornice.

On the south elevation, the fenestration includes a Venetian window with glazing bars on the first floor, along with other sash windows that are set under gauged brick heads. The porch features a leaded canopy hood on panelled timber piers that shelters a partially glazed door, and there is a moulded brick dentil cornice above the first-floor windows.
