Description
Avondale House is a house with a shop on the ground floor, dating from the 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of red brick and features a clay tile roof. The building has a three-window range, is two storeys high with attics, and includes a brick band at the first floor level and a moulded brick cornice at the eaves. The left-hand side of the ground floor has an early 20th-century shopfront. On the right-hand side of the ground floor and the first floor, there are flush sash windows with glazing bars, all set under gauged brick heads. The attic features two hipped dormers with sash windows. The central entrance has a 20th-century part-glazed door within a moulded surround, topped with an open pediment supported by cut brackets. There is a red brick integral stack on the right-hand gable end. Inside, the left-hand ground floor room contains 19th-century ogee-headed built-in shelves.
