Description
This is a water trough, likely not in its original position, located approximately 35 meters east of the south wing of Woburn Abbey. It dates from 1771 and features the initials DB, topped by a coronet and a ram, which is the Bedford crest. Made of lead, the trough is rectangular, standing under 1 metre high and about 2 metres wide. It has moulded decoration with geometric panels and a variety of decorative motifs, including St George and the dragon, paterae, thistles, scallop shells, winged putti, and griffins. This trough forms a pair with another trough nearby, which shares some of the same decorative motifs but is not identical.
