Description
The Statue of Adonis, dating from around 1700, was created by J V Legterin, who was active between 1685 and 1708. This statue is made of ashlar stone, which has been blackened at a later date, likely to conceal repairs made in marble, giving it the appearance of lead. The statue stands on a rectangular ashlar plinth that features a moulded base and cap, bringing the total height of the statue and plinth to approximately 3 metres. It depicts a standing figure of Adonis with a putto at his left heel. Adonis holds the remains of an object in his right hand, probably a bow, and has a quiver on his left side. This statue forms a group with other items that depict Diana, Juno, and Apollo.
