Description
Shefford Hardwick Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1600, which was reworked and extended in the early and later 19th century, with a plaque on the rear indicating 'S.W. 1886'. The original structure features a substantial timber frame with red brick infill, while the later additions are constructed entirely of red brick. The farmhouse has clay tile roofs. The original part consists of a two-storey L-shaped block, with later blocks extending to the west and south, likely replacing or incorporating parts of an earlier building.
On the north elevation, the original section has three-light casements with glazing bars. The projecting gable on this side is encased in red brick at the ground floor and may have originally jettied. The left-hand block includes a red brick chimney stack, which was rebuilt in the 19th century and features moulded octagonal stacks. The right-hand 19th-century blocks mainly contain sashes with glazing bars, dentil eaves cornices, and various brick stacks with moulded octagonal stacks. Other elevations of the 19th-century parts also have sashes with glazing bars, while the original block features casements and blocked original mullioned windows that are visible externally.
