Description
Nos. 25 and 27 Bedford Road are a pair of lodge cottages that originally belonged to Ickwell Bury. They date from the early 19th century and have undergone some reworking and an addition in the 20th century. The cottages feature colourwashed roughcast render, with No. 25 retaining its original slender timber framing, while No. 27 has been rebuilt in brick. Both have slate roofs that are hipped on the facing elevations.
The buildings consist of two single-storeyed square blocks with entrances that face each other, now connected by a 20th-century block. Each entrance front has a central doorway with an ogee head. No. 25 still has its original door, which features two ogee-headed panels. There are two flanking casement windows on each side, each with two pointed-arched leaded lights beneath ogee heads. The heads of the windows and doors all have fleur-de-lys decoration at the apex. The road-facing elevations also have two similar ogee-headed windows, but these do not include the fleur-de-lys detail. Each block has a double central ridge stack.
