Description

Nos. 1 and 2 Hooton Green are a pair of cottages from the early 19th century, featuring later alterations. They are constructed from brown brick and topped with a slate roof. The cottages are two stories tall with a double-depth plan, including a rear outshut for No. 1 and a wing for No. 2. The front facade has a regular two-window arrangement.

Both cottages have cast iron Gothic headed casements with glazing bars and interlaced tracery, with the ground floor featuring five panes wide and four panes above. No. 2 has a plain boarded door sheltered by a cantilever bracketed door hood. The eaves are scallop-edged, and there is a fascia with exposed outrigger rafters at the verges.

The gable end of No. 1 features a 20th-century three-panel glazed door, four horizontal sliding sashes, and a metal casement, while No. 2 has flush casements. The apex treatment includes an exposed rafter collar and a dropped finial post with a moulded foot. A large central ridge stack made of yellow brick has sunk panels and a dentil cap.
