Description
RIDGEMONT HIGH STREET SP 9735 No 17 13/10001 Manse and School house adjoining south west GV II
Manse and integral school house. Circa 1835. Red brick with biscuit colour headers. Slate hipped roof with deep eaves and lead rolls to hips and ridge. Brick end and axial stack with yellow clay pots. Plan: Double depth plan. Manse on right with 2 front rooms and central entrance; integral school house on left with entrance to left of one front room. Exterior: 2 storeys. 1:3 bay front. Symmetrical 3-bay manse on right with C19 16-pane sashes and flat rubbed brick arches and central doorway with pilastered doorcase, rectangular overlight, small canopy and glazed and panelled door. 1-bay school house on left has similar doorway and door but without overlight, and has tripartite sashes, 16 panes flanked by 4-pane side lights and with rubbed flat brick arches. At rear C19 2-light casements with glazing bars. Interior: Not inspected. Kelly's Directory of 1914 claims the "Minister's residence" was built in 1811, which is the date inscribed on the front of the Baptist Chapel (qv).
