Description
The manse located immediately south of the Congregational Chapel was built around 1824. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond on the east front and features a slate hipped roof with deep eaves, lead-rolled hips, and ridge. The building has brick axial and side stacks and is designed as a double-depth, three-bay house with central entrances on both the east and west sides.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay east front. It has 16-pane sash windows with flat rubbed brick arches and cills, and a 12-pane sash window in the centre of the first floor. The central doorway is framed by a moulded case with flush-panel reveals, a rectangular overlight, and a small canopy supported by console brackets, leading to a fielded six-panel door. The west elevation mirrors the east but lacks the central first-floor window and features a simpler central doorway with a moulded case, a small canopy on brackets, and a flush-panel door.
Inside, the manse retains much of its original joinery, including a stick-baluster staircase, panelled doors, and moulded architraves. The interior also boasts moulded plaster ceiling cornices and a brick vaulted cellar.
