Description

Two houses, probably originally a single dwelling, located on High Street, Ridgmont. The building likely dates to the 16th century, with alterations and reworking in the 19th century. It is a timber-framed structure, with red brick infill, and some parts rebuilt in brick. The roof is slate-covered. Originally a cottage, likely with two or three rooms and probably single-storied, the building was heightened and extended to the rear in the 19th century. The front elevation displays exposed timber framing. The upper part of the first-floor framing is slender, while the earlier structure's framing is more substantial and features curving braces. The ground floor has two three-light casement windows and one canted bay. The first floor has three three-light casement windows. There are two doorways, one with a plank door, and the other with a part-glazed door. A red brick ridge stack and a red brick integral stack are visible on the right-hand gable end. Internally, the rear wall of the original structure forms an internal wall, with some sections rebuilt in brick. The original rear roof slope timbers are retained, whereas the front roof slope timbers have been removed.
