Description

A barn and stables, dating to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with alterations in the mid-20th century. The stables extend to the southwest, and the barn to the northeast, forming an L-shaped layout. The stables are built of bedrock and sandstone ashlar, but feature a dentilled brick cornice. The ground floor has been altered, with portions quarried out of the bedrock, leaving the solid front wall. They have six windows, mostly 2-light casements with segmental brick arches. There are three stable entrances on the ground floor. The barn is constructed of brick with a sandstone plinth and a dentilled brick cornice. A wide cart entrance at the southwest end has a semi-elliptical brick head. To the left, the barn has four semi-circular headed recesses with hit-and-miss ventilators, flanked by a centrally located segmentally headed cart entrance. The barn includes a wide opening at the southwest end with a semi-elliptical brick head. Spring Grove Farmhouse is a separate listed building and not included in this listing.
