Description
Spring Grove is a small country house, now serving as a banqueting suite, built between 1787 and 1790 for Samuel Skey. It has a mid-19th century extension and some alterations from the late 20th century. The original structure is made of ashlar and features a hipped stone tile roof, while the extension is constructed from stuccoed brick with a slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has a dentilled stone cornice, with a central pediment above a slightly advanced section. The façade includes a symmetrical arrangement of windows: 2 + 3 + 2 on the upper floor, featuring glazing bar sashes set in moulded architraves with wooden blind boxes and a sill band. The ground floor has 2 + 2 + 2 windows, with the central part further advanced and adorned with a balustrade and dentilled moulded cornice. Two pairs of Ionic pilasters flank two semi-circular headed windows, and the entrance features a semi-circular head with a fanlight and a two-leaf door. Inside, most of the plaster cornices remain intact, along with two marble columns in the entrance hall. The open well staircase has a cast-iron balustrade topped by an octagonal dome. The extension to the right has an Italianate style, featuring a three-storey tower at the right-hand corner topped with a pyramidal roof.
