Description

1 and 2 Cheapside are a pair of houses, which are the last remaining part of a longer terrace, built around 1800. They are constructed of brick and have a plain tiled roof. The houses are three stories high and consist of five bays, arranged in two unequal units that curve around the street corner.

The entrance features four-panelled doors with overlights, set in pedimented cases that have flat entablatures and panelled rebates. The western door is flanked by flush framed 16-light sash windows with segmentally arched brick heads. There is one blocked window on the ground floor. The upper windows are also 16-pane sashes with segmentally arched heads, while the angle features 12-pane windows and the attic storey has 8-pane windows. The eaves are dentilled, and there are gable end stacks. A small wing has been added to the north. These houses were likely built in connection with the New Basin, which was constructed between 1806 and 1810.
