Description

The sandstone walls, dating from around 1812, enclose a canal basin in Stourport on Severn. Constructed from sandstone ashlar, the walls feature sandstone saddle-back coping that ramps up to higher levels and over a gateway with a round arch located towards the south end of Severn Road. In some areas, the walls have been rebuilt in brick. These walls mark the north and east sides of a canal basin that has since been filled in. The basin was originally part of a canal scheme intended to create a third outlet to the River Severn at Stourport.
