Description
The Lock Shop is a canal lock keeper's cottage that has been converted into a shop. It was built in 1854 and features white-washed and rendered brick with a Welsh slate roof and a central ridge stack, along with a shorter ridge stack on the left side. The building is a single-storey structure with three windows, and it has a central gable that slightly projects forward, featuring a plaque inscribed with "SWCC." To the left, there is a small 19th-century shop window and a door beyond it. An extension is located at the left end, while a 20th-century bow window is found at the right end, which has a plaque inscribed with "AD 1854." There is also an extension at the rear. The gable apexes are adorned with turned and pointed wooden finials. The Lock Shop forms a group with the adjacent Toll Office, located by York Street Lock at the head of the canal basin.
